The price of a printer is only the start of what printing costs you – the real expense is in the cartridges. A laser printer is cheaper per page and better for text, while an inkjet does colour better, though its ink dries out if you print rarely. When buying a cartridge, the model code has to match exactly: cartridges with similar names often aren't interchangeable. Yield is stated in pages and calculated at 5% coverage.
