Electrical protection devices guard your equipment and wiring against what you can't control. A circuit breaker cuts the line on overload or short circuit, while an RCBO trips on current leakage – in other words, it protects people. A surge protector diverts voltage spikes from thunderstorms to earth. In a DC circuit, for example with solar panels, use only a breaker rated for DC – an ordinary one can't extinguish the arc.
