Two numbers decide everything with a battery: the voltage, which must match your device, and the capacity in amp-hours, which determines runtime. Lead-acid batteries are cheap and found in most UPS units, but they don't tolerate deep discharge well. Lithium (LiFePO4) withstands several times more cycles and is lighter, which makes it the better choice for solar systems. When replacing one in a UPS, the size and terminal type must match exactly too.
