An angle grinder's disc diameter should match the motor's power: a large disc needs a powerful motor, while a small one is handier for fine work. Cutting and grinding discs are not interchangeable – a disc made for cutting is too thin for grinding and can shatter. Speed control keeps you from grinding away too much on soft materials. With a polisher, choosing the right speed matters, because too high a speed burns the lacquer and dulls the colour.
