Webcams, microphones and presenters

Buying guide

In a webcam, low-light performance matters more than resolution – a 1080p camera with a weak sensor looks worse in poor lighting than a 720p one. Frame rate affects how smooth movement looks: 30 frames is enough for calls, 60 for streaming. A built-in microphone is convenient, but a separate microphone or headset noticeably improves your sound. Autofocus is needed if your distance from the camera changes. A privacy cover or detachable mount is a practical extra. A separate microphone records better than any built-in one, and a presenter lets you change slides from a distance.
