Before choosing a gamepad, check what your games support – most expect one common standard, and in another mode the buttons may be mapped incorrectly. A wired controller works with no lag and needs no charging; a wireless one gives more freedom but takes up a port for its receiver. Vibration and the quality of the analogue sticks affect the feel more than the number of buttons. During long sessions, the size of the body and the grip matter more than you might expect.
