Cabling a network doesn't end with the cable: a socket goes into the wall, a patch panel into the cabinet, and connectors are crimped onto the ends with a special tool. The category of the components must match the cable – a Cat6 cable with a Cat5e socket brings the whole line down to Cat5e. A tester shows in a few minutes which pair is wired wrongly, before the wall is closed up.
