SFP modules and media converters

Buying guide

An SFP module is a small transceiver that slots into a switch port and converts the electrical signal into light. The modules at both ends of a link must match each other: fibre type, wavelength and speed. Single-fibre (BiDi) modules work in pairs – one end transmits on one wavelength, the other on another. A media converter does the same job as a standalone box if your device has no SFP port.
