Match the adhesive to the surface: wood, metal, plastic and rubber each need a different formula. Expanding foam fills gaps and swells as it cures, so don't overestimate the amount you need. Silicone protects damp areas, but paint won't stick to it. Among tapes, double-sided, insulating and masking tape are for completely different jobs. Check the curing time before you buy, because some adhesives take several hours to set.
