Type and capacity are what count with batteries. Rechargeable NiMH cells sharply cut running costs in frequently used devices – mice, keyboards and remotes are exactly such cases; single-use alkaline batteries are better for devices you rarely switch on, as they hold their charge for a long time. In a charger, check whether each channel is controlled independently – when charging in pairs, one faulty cell damages the other. Automatic shut-off protects against overcharging and extends battery life.
