Air conditioners and air care

Buying guide

Air conditioner capacity is calculated from a room's floor area and ceiling height, so an undersized unit in a large room runs non-stop and wears out quickly. Inverter models hold the temperature more evenly and use less electricity, though they cost more up front. A humidifier relieves dry winter air, while an air purifier filters out dust and allergens; both need their filters changed on time. A fan doesn't cool the air – it only moves it.
